Disable Windows 7 Automatic Reboots

One of the most annoying features of Windows is its ability to restart your machine automatically once you’ve installed Windows updates. This issue becomes even more annoying if for instance you leave things running overnight to continue next morning, or leave your machine running while you go grab some lunch. Thankfullly it really quick and easy to fix.

  1. Open Local Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the Start Search and hit Enter.
  2. Now go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update on the left sidebar.
  3. Now in the main window, select “No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic update installations” and enable that setting.

All done, you should no longer have to worry about Windows restarting itself!
